So day two of the diary writing! Well I've had a very interesting two days back at school, so being able to reflect is very useful. I am so far enjoying writing my diary and look forward to what it brings. How's everyone else getting on?

  2. Hi Anna,

Thank you for some interesting posts over the last few weeks. I did agree with the sentiment you express relating to Web2.0, and the potential damage that can be experienced by people. However, I did think that another way to look at this is not to think in terms of benefits and drawbacks, rather to look at its features and characteristics compared with other tools for communication.

By this I mean that we can find all sorts of benefits and drawbacks of other technologies. For example, if we take the printed book, there are all sorts of benefits and drawbacks. For example, a book requires literacy. It requires money to buy the book. So any technology (a book, a web page) caries the potential for benefits, and for drawbacks.

I remain unconvinced by claims that any one technology carries innately or particularly punitive qualities.

I think it is more worthwhile to explore qualities in a more dispassionate way. So for example, what if we explored the use of Web2.0 in terms of say: ‘tendency towards accuracy or inaccuracy? Collaborative Potential? Internationalism? Currency of knowledge? Democratisation? Use in Terrorism? Sexual Grooming? Etc etc. Set aside the dichotomy of good-bad / right-wrong and see 'any’ technology as having features and characteristics. Explore these, realise these.

  3. Hi Anna, How are you? I'm just about to start my journal today! I have been reading the material we were given about journal writing along with looking at other sources online. I have always been baffled by the word journal. Is it a diary? A story? I am learning now that I suppose it is a mixture of both! I am looking forward to keeping a journal as I love writing and telling a story. I imagine most of my record keeping will be by description and sketches but it will be interesting to see what other forms of journal writing I come across and begin to use. What style of writing have you found yourself doing at the moment?

  4. Hi Carla, yeah I agree with you it is a bit of both! I quite like writing story's/diary's and I am enjoying writing mine. I have found writing "descriptive" the easiest as I like writing freely and I found it easy to write down my day. I also like drawing things as Im a visual learner, drawing things helps me remember things and helps me be more reflective. At the school I work at I have to reflect every lesson as its quite a challenging school so I have enjoyed writing and being able to look back and reflect a few days later on events that have happened. Let me know how you get on with your diary :) and what you find easiest. x
